|
For
the past several years, the Shankara Vidya Kendra (SVK) has
been the hub of intense intellectual and spiritual activity,
attracting a large number of intellectuals, executives and
swamis. Nestled in the serene environs of central vasant vihar,
the SVK has pioneered the cause of value based practices in
the management profession since the past decade. Eminent corporate
personalities joined hands in promoting a new management credo-VIVEK
MANAGEMENT, after painstaking efforts in research and consultancy.
The objective was singular: to produce value-enriched managers
who could create corporate environments of excellence, with
the strategic intent of reviving the pristine glory of the
Indian Nation. |
| |
Many
national level management conferences were organized to generate
the awareness of this philosophy: |
| |
Karma, Guna and HRM in Darsanas (1989); Indian values and
productivity with Indian Merchants Chamber, Bombay (1990);
Indian values and leadership with Prof. S.K. Chakraborty-IIM,
Calcutta (1991); Indian values motivation with Ahmedaabd Management
Association (1992); Indian values and self development with
IISc, bangalore (1993); Indian values and organizational effectiveness
with Madras Management Association (1994); Indian values and
HRM with Hyderabad Management Association (1995); etc. other
national programmes on indian ethos in management includes
New paradigms in management (1992), Indian ethos for leadership
with Department of Science and Technology and programmes for

Recognizing the growing a significance of a value orientation
to business in particular and education in general, the need
arose of establishing a management institute which would strive
to impart the lofty ideals of character building to future
corporate managers, apart from education in conventional management
skills and techniques. The idea translated into reality on
the 16th of october 1994, during the Vijay Yatra of His Holiness,
the Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sringeri when the final decision
to set up a unique management institute with focus on Indian
shastras took concrete shape and received the endorsement
and blessings of his Holiness. It was decided that the institute
would be named Sri Sringeri Sharada
Institute of Indian Management - Research and would be situated
in the picturesque location of Shankara Vidya Kendra. |
| |
Sri Sringeri Sharada Institute of Management (SriSIIM) was
inaugurated on 22nd July 1996 by Shri T.N. Seshan, Former
Chief Election Commissioner of India and Dr. D. Swaminadhan,

programme with outstanding focus on Indian ethos duly approved
by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This

philosopher, Dr. Mrityunjay B. Athreya, whose visionary guidance
creates the agenda of growth for SriSIIM. The institute also
